• Mitsuharu Misawa, All Japan's top star over the last decade, shockingly left All Japan and took almost the entire roster with him. Pro Wrestling NOAH, his new promotion, is a new beginning for the former stars of All Japan. Most everyone in the company has been given an entirely new look and, unlike the old days in All Japan, everyone will have the opportunity to rise to the top.

  Many former All Japan under carders, who were never given a chance before, shined on the debut show. The first match, Morishima vs. Hashi, is a perfect example. The two were relative unknowns before the match, but after the superstar production, makeovers for both men, and an opportunity to show what they are capable of, the two put on an excellent match. Plenty of innovative moves were used, including a crazy diving headbutt from the apron to the floor and a cool reverse chokeslam, and the crowd was hot throughout.

  The question most All Japan fans want answered is will NOAH be able to provide the kind of main events that All Japan was famous for. If the first show is any indication, the answer is a definite yes. Jun Akiyama finally received his long past due chance to shine as the top star of his promotion. Not only did he knock out Misawa with his new choke sleeper in under five minutes, he defeated Taue to win the two out of three falls match for his team. After the match, he suplexed his own partner Kobashi signifying that he was his own man and the top man in NOAH. NOAH's first heel was born.

  Pro Wrestling NOAH is an opportunity for Misawa to correct the mistakes of All Japan's past. Namely, not pushing young talent, not utilizing submission wrestling properly, and allowing the same lineups to get stale. So far, Misawa has done very well.

• NOAH's first match of the year candidate is official after Jun Akiyama's epic battle with Kenta Kobashi. Many questioned Kobashi's health going into this match, but the incredible skill of both men allowed them to use the legitimate leg injury to build the match with incredible heat. No moves were missed nor were any left out. The head dropping suplexes are intact! Jun Akiyama is perfect is his new heel role. He is in uncharted territory, the first true native heel main eventer in AJPW/NOAH history.

  Misawa has smartly continued to make submissions effective in All Japan. This will not only protect his workers health but allow them to have more balanced, complete matches, with more believeable near falls and false finishes than were previously possible. Daisuke Ikeda, an excellent all around worker who prefers shoot style and previously worked for BattlArts, was again in the semi main event, proving Misawa's claim that young talent would rise to the top was true.
